SOUTH PERTH


South Perth has it all — a range of different properties, beautiful parks and gardens and a rich local history. The suburb sits on the banks of the Swan River and offers city views as well as leafy, tree-lined streets. A real estate boom in the 1880s saw development of the suburb, although it was originally settled in 1829. At the time it had a population of just 400. Today, that number has grown 30 times over.


The buildings in South Perth range from 20-storey apartment blocks to Victorian villas. Throw in a couple of old brick mansions and 1980s townhouses and you’ve got lots of home options to choose from. Almost half the properties in the suburb are rented, with the rest either being paid off or owned outright. South Perth is popular with younger adults and it’s easy to see why. Perth CBD is just across the river, there are parks and water sports to enjoy and the local pub is well known for its party vibe. Perth Zoo can also be found in South Perth along with Royal Perth Golf Club, both opening in 1898.


There is plenty going on in South Perth in the way of extra-curricular activities too. South Perth Tennis Club and a Bowling Club and long stretches of parkland along the foreshore. Sir James Mitchell Park is popular with dog walkers, pram pushers and runners. Although there is no train station in the suburb, buses run regularly and there the Mends Street commuter ferry will get you to Perth CBD quicker than you can drive there.
